Arcsteel 309L-16 is a semi-basic coated MMA electrode that produces a low-carbon weld deposit containing 21–24% chromium and 12–14% nickel, with approximately 12% delta ferrite to provide excellent resistance against hot cracking. It is primarily intended for buffer layers and cladding on carbon and low-alloy steels, delivering corrosion resistance from the first deposited layer. The electrode is also recommended for joining dissimilar metals, such as austenitic stainless steels to ferritic steels, in service temperatures up to 300°C, as well as for welding stainless steels with comparable chemical composition.
